"Human Values are born within man; they are not obtained from outside. Yet man in his ignorance is not aware of these values. When man sheds his ignorance, he will experience his divine nature.”

Our Offerings!

AHV Workshops for Parents

Center for Human Values aims to draw attention to five human values of Love, Truth, Right Conduct, Peace, Nonviolence which can play a pivotal role in upbringing of our children.

Parenting is a journey. It’s a lifelong process of learning to understand ourselves and our children. It all starts with reflecting about our own childhood, how we felt, what made us happy then what makes us happy now and questioning why! That's what we try to achieve through our interactive workshops. Today, the world is different from the world in which we were raised. It’s the need of the hour to be conscious of why we do what we are doing in parenting, what our triggers are, how our words, moods and body language affect our children. Many times, pausing and reflecting will show us that we too have felt that way and we can support our children better when we resonate with their story, their current situation, their path, their choices and respond from a neutral and calm place internally. The Center for Human Values has conducted workshops on various topics so far. The main topics of discussions were: – Empathy – Self Esteem – Transforming relationship with children We offer an insightful medley of content during the workshops, where we include group games and activities, case scenario discussions, inspiring stories, self – reflection surveys and many more awesome activities.

AHV Projects for Juveniles

The goal of the Juvenile Justice Program is to inspire juveniles in detention centers to incorporate and practice the values in all their roles, enabling them to become self-sustaining, responsible, and successful citizens. The Human Values Project aims to empower juveniles by instilling essential values such as respect, and responsibility.

Our volunteers contact the coordinator of the Juvenile Detention Center for the County of their residence and offer their services through mentorship for children in Juvenile Centers, either by joining the existing program or directly through our CHV program.

This program has been successfully implemented at Fort Bend County Juvenile Detention Center in Texas.  Since its establishment, the team has worked with a few teenagers at this facility.

We plan to create a widespread network of CHV volunteers where they can interact with and exert a positive influence on juveniles in their local detention centers throughout the USA, Canada, and the West Indies.

AHV Workshops for Yoga

Objective of the program is to awaken the inner latent divinity and the spiritual self through the practice of Yoga. The workshop highlights personal practices, body postures, mindful breathing, turning inward, focusing, surrendering to experience pure bliss for the purpose of personal self-transformation and to help transform communities, the country, and the world at large. The workshops conducted by Center for Human Values helps participants explore how the practice of yoga can help them to practice human values and to further our inner qualities. Our recent workshops on Yoga and Anger Management explored the emotions behind anger and gave various methods on how to deal with anger. The audience was mainly young adults and adults. The goal of the workshop was to practice yoga by enabling discipline to deal with anger and manage related issues in day-to-day life.

The session included physical practice of yoga, breathing techniques, postures, kriyas, and relaxation techniques. The workshops utilize unforgettable stories, rhythmic songs, motivational quotations, case studies, interactive discussions, and games, on how to measure the levels of anger using an anger thermometer. Similar yoga and human values programs were conducted practically with middle school children in a school in Trinidad and tremendous benefits were reported. Kids were less stressed, did not feel overburdened or overwhelmed.

AHV Projects at Women's Transition Homes

Empowering Women through the lens of Human Values’ is an educational and interactive program to support women who are seeking increased opportunities to reach their full potential. The workshops conducted by the Center for Human Values, explores topics such as women’s sense of self-worth, power and control over their own lives, self-awareness, self-confidence, inner strength, self-acceptance and more. We partner with local organizations and groups to serve communities which help empower women. Since last year, our organization has been collaborating with The Women’s Center in North Carolina, a wonderful group that serves the community by helping women transition from homelessness to home. They do a lot of wonderful work to uplift women from their current situations to boost their confidence. The Women’s Center requested us to conduct workshops under their enrichment programs to help women on topics like self-confidence, self-awareness, self-love, self-esteem, self-respect, handling frustration, fatigue, disappointment, all the emotions attached to homelessness. We had an opportunity to inspire and create awareness towards love through transformation, acceptance of self, being kind, and compassionate towards ourselves and others.

We look forward to serving with our time and energy many more women’s organizations to give back to the community.

AHV Workshops for Medical Professionals

The Center for Human Values facilitated its first workshop for healthcare professionals – “Living Human Values in Healthcare” in March 2024.

The goal of this interactive workshop was to explore on what it means to live the human values of truth, right action, peace, love, and nonviolence in the healthcare realm and how the engagement of our hearts as well as our minds in the service of others can enable us to care for patients deeply and effectively, their families and the professionals themselves. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants felt that they would be comfortable in articulating human values with their patients and colleagues by more mindful, intentional, positive, empathetic, and compassionate interactions with the individuals they serve and work with.

AHV in Action/Community Projects

Center of Human Values (CHV) has a team of volunteers in New York City which provides vegetarian meals, clothing, and other essential items of everyday use to the people who need it and thus we try to follow the dictum - "Hands that Serve are Holier than Lips that Pray."

Hempstead, NY is a hub of the huge food service conducted by CHV volunteers. Our volunteers are actively serving the homeless in Queens, Manhattan and Long Island, NY. There are multiple locations being served across the region including service to people who sleep outside at night or hanging out and looking for labor work during the day hours. We also actively support a local food bank in Freeport, NY that serves hundreds of insecure families and children.

We have seen communities being transformed as they receive selfless sharing of Love as part of the Human Values program. The people we serve appreciate our work in their communities while we feel fortunate to avail this unique opportunity to perform service in our communities.

ACT for Children in NJ & CA

Center for Human Values aims to build a robust tutoring program for individual children and communities that need it the most. The program’s goal is to provide free educational improvement programs for children via academic tutoring and coaching for development of life skills. With the ongoing support from the committee, we strive for the following long-term goals as we build the tutoring program. New Jersey started with the Academic Coaching & Tutoring program during the spring of 2022.  About 30 enthusiastic CHV volunteers, including adults, young adults, and high school students started teaching different subjects and provided homework help to their grade school tutees. The subjects taught include English, Math, Chemistry and Biology. So far, many students from underserved areas have benefited from this tutoring service.

These one-on-one tutoring sessions are held online via Zoom and usually last for an hour each. These classes are mostly conducted after school hours.

The SAIL – Serve ACT Inspire Learn program is a peer tutoring program where 7th graders and up help elementary school children to support students in improving their math skills. The program is one of the Academic Coaching and Tutoring programs started as part of CHV in Livermore, California. 15-20 student volunteers tutor around 45-50 students, mainly in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. These classes are conducted on Saturdays for two and a half hours. This includes a 15-minute snack break where free snacks are provided.

This service opportunity supports children from an underserved school. The testing scores for this school are low and we hope to improve them. The tutees learn math and are witnessing the service provided by the tutors. On the other hand, the tutors learn various soft leadership skills, like speaking to an audience, having patience, and the ability to explain concepts in different ways. It gives young tutors the chance to experience the joy of volunteering.

ACT College Prep Workshops

Center for Human Values offers interactive, informational workshops for parents and high school students who are preparing for college admissions. So many times, the parents who are unaware of the college admissions process, due to a lack of available comprehensive resources, often struggle to find guidance and their children are deprived of timely help.

CHV has conducted many workshops so far and plans to offer quarterly workshops so that equal opportunity can be provided for all, especially the under served population due to economic and family challenges.

ACT for ESL - Conversational English

The highlight of this program is the ongoing English as a Second Language (ESL) classes in New Jersey. The ESL program offered by CHV was well received by the immigrant community. Most of the adults enrolled in the ESL program belong to Spanish speaking and a few to Arabic speaking communities. Prof. Andrew, from the University of Tampa, conducted the first ESL session for the adult students. It was attended by the learners as well as other ESL tutor volunteers to get hands-on training. Currently, these classes are held twice a week and are run by a pool of dedicated adult volunteers.
